Charity of the Month

About Charity of the Month

Tracy Brabin’s Charity of the Month is an ongoing campaign to promote and celebrate the fantastic, selfless work of our many local charities.

Each month, Tracy will nominate a charity to be featured on her website to showcase their brilliant work, highlight any volunteering opportunities, and to encourage people to give what they can to these great causes.

Tracy will donate any earnings she makes through work such as completing MP surveys to the chosen charity each month. If Tracy does not raise any donations through surveys or similar methods, she will make a personal donation to that charity.

March – Yorkshire Down Syndrome Group

The Yorkshire Down Syndrome Group is a group based in Batley that holds a fortnightly meeting for families and people who care for children with down syndrome.

Clare Ellarby, who runs the group, says they are delighted to have been chosen as Tracy’s Charity of the Month.

She said: “Yorkshire Down Syndrome Group supports families with children/ adults with down syndrome and don’t forget to rock your socks on the 21st March for World Down Syndrome Day.”

February – St John’s Cleckheaton’s Emergency Roof Fund

St John’s Church in Cleckheaton launched an emergency appeal in December to raise much-needed funds to fix their leaking roof.

It has been a problem for some time, but it is deteriorating more and more and is now in danger of putting their vital community work and events at risk.

Vicar of the church, Brunel James, said: “We want everyone who cares about the local community to be aware of our appeal and consider contributing.

“St John’s provides a Mother and Toddler group, a befriending cafe and a host of other community activities, but all this is under threat. Please look at our website for more information – or ring me on 07811195280.”

St John’s need to raise a total of £10,000 to fix their roof, so all donations – big and small – are very welcome.

January 2018 – The Whole Autism Family

Tracy has chosen The Whole Autism Family as her charity of the month for  January.

The Whole Autism Family was formed in 2014 to offer help, support and guidance to families who are impacted by autism in Kirklees.

The charity, formed by a local family who had to battle to get a diagnosis for their son’s autism, offer support group meetings in a friendly, safe and non-judgemental environment.

Anne-Marie Kilgallon from The Whole Autism Family said: “We are extremely honoured to be chosen as Tracey’s charity of the month, its a fantastic opportunity to raise much needed autism awareness within the local community.

“We are excited about the positive difference we can make together!”
